Lifeguard Certification Course
Lifeguard Training Course
The Swim Center provides Lifeguard Training and Certification through the American Red Cross. The purpose of this course is to provide entry-level lifeguard participants with the knowledge and skills to prevent, recognize and respond to aquatic emergencies and to provide professional- level care for breathing and cardiac emergencies, injuries and sudden illnesses until EMS personnel take over.

Course Details
Total cost- $275, $50 paid up front for tryout, upon successful completion of tryout, the balance of $225 will be automatically charged.
Tryouts : Scheduled upon registration
Following successful completion of tryouts, in-person classes:
Friday, May 5 (5-9pm), Saturday, May 6 (9-5pm), Sunday, May 7 (9-5pm)
Attendance is mandatory for all classes. Any participant arriving late will be considered tardy and will not be allowed to complete the course.
Online coursework MUST be completed, studied and reviewed prior to first class on Friday. Online coursework will be provided once registration for the tryout is submitted.

Prerequisite Tryout
All participants are required to pass a tryout:
1- Swim 300 yards continuously demonstrating breath control and rhythmic breathing. Candidates may swim using the front crawl, breaststroke or a combination of both but swimming on the back or side is not allowed. Swim goggles may be used.
2- Tread water for 2 minutes using only the legs. Candidates should place their hands under the armpits.
3- Complete a timed event within 1 minute 40 seconds.
- Starting in the water, swim 20 yards using the front crawl or breaststroke. The face may be in or out of the water. Swim goggles are NOT allowed.
- Surface dive, feet-first or head-first, to a depth of 7-10 feet to retrieve a 10 pound object. Return to the surface and swim 20 yards on the back to return to the starting point with both hands holding the object and keeping the face at or near the surface so they are able to get a breath. Candidates should not swim the distance under water.
- Exit the water without using a ladder or steps.
Cost
Preregistration for a tryout is $50 non-refundable.
$225 due at completion of successfully passing the tryout.
The total cost of $275 covers all materials including CPR mask and first aid kit, Lifeguard, First Aid, CPR and AED certification valid for 2 years.
Lifeguard Certification Renewal
Are you already certified as a Lifeguard and need to renew your certification?
- You must attend the entire course.
- Your total cost will be $175. This does not include a new CPR mask, whistle or fanny pack. If you need a new one, let us know in advance as additional charges will be incurred.
- Register for the prerequisite tryout above. Indicate "Certification Renewal" in the comment box.
Shallow Water Lifeguard Certification
Shallow Water Lifeguard Training
This class is perfect for those not strong enough to meet the full LG requirements and only planning to work someplace 5ft or less. The purpose of the SWLT course is to provide entry-level shallow water lifeguard participants with the knowledge and skills needed to prevent, recognize and respond to aquatic emergencies in shallow water up to 5 feet deep and to provide professional-level care for breathing and cardiac emergencies, injuries and sudden illnesses until EMS personnel take over.
The schedule is combined with our traditional Lifeguard training class. Candidates will be dismissed early as LG candidates work on deep water skills.

Jr Lifeguard Training
Not 15 yet, but want to take the course as a Jr. Lifeguard?
This class is perfect for those who aren't yet 15. If we have space, we would love to have you!
- The same prerequisite tryouts apply and must be completed
- The entire course must be attended and completed
- Total cost is $100. This does not include a CPR mask, whistle or fanny pack. A face shield will be provided for CPR training. A CPR mask, whistle and fanny pack can be purchased at the additional cost.
- Register for the Lifeguard Training above, Indicate "Jr Lifeguard" in the comment box
- We will not charge you until we know for sure we have room for you to attend the course. Notice for space will be sent by April 15!
